Phuta check kacah/dhoti are handwoven with thick low count cotton / semi silk in Mayurbhanj district. The Santhal tribals forming a vast chunk of Odisha’s tribal population, wear these check sarees. The organic cotton / semi silk feels warm in winter and cool in summer. Various tribal motifs are embroidered into these sarees like arrow, duck, child, man, shield, flower, deer etc., as the tribals live closely with Nature. To weave a single kacha / dhoti, it takes about three days. So, proudly flaunt a Santhal Kacha / dhoti and be one of the Nature-loving tribe!
